(self) + thought & expression  -  Exhibition opening and artist salon
“What and Where and Why is Art?”  Film screening at 8:45pm
The Dan Nadeau group will play live jazz music throughout the evening.

The Paul Alexander Gallery is delighted to announce the opening of: (self) + thought & expression – a group
exhibition which presents a myriad of works that investigate and challenge our notions of our selves as thinking
and expressive beings.   This collection will remain on display in the Paul Alexander Gallery until August 15,
2007 – with a series of inspiring salons and workshops to take place over the summer.

Central to this exhibition is the work of filmmakers Robert and Yvonne Troxel who have documented
conversations and reflections regarding the creative process, art making, and artist’s concepts of ‘flow.’   Their
in-process short documentary film “What and Where and Why is Art?” will be screened during the June 15
event, and features five established painters (ages from 30’s to 90’s) now working and creating in New
England.

In addition to the short documentary film, raw footage captured by the Troxel team during the start of the
Canvasation project will be on display, alongside two large group paintings created during the Gallery’s May
Artist Preview.  The Canvasation project consists of artworks that groups of artists paint collaboratively on one
canvas, enabling them to, in essence, converse via their simultaneous and tandem paint strokes.   These two
large works launched the Canvasation project and will be on view alongside with the footage which
documented the process of their creation.

During the June 15 opening event, two additional large works of art will be created and filmed, while being
projected larger than life, and in live-time.  The Canvasation project, in conjunction with the theme of this
exhibition - (self) + thought & expression - aims to inspire increased insight and appreciation for artists and fine
art while creating a more concrete and experiential context for the creative process.

The Dan Nadeau Group will perform live jazz during the opening celebration and painting demonstration.

The sumptuous gallery with its collection of fine period furniture creates a space conducive for reflection and
dialogue inspired, particularly, by the work of the fourteen participating artists:

Gerard Barbot (New York, NY), Paul Riedl (Framingham, MA), Narda Boughton (Framingham, MA),
Natalie Giugni (New York, NY), Agni Zotis+Selfles (New York, NY), Casey Baugh (Framingham, MA),
Joseph Pesce (Framingham, MA), Colleen Choquette-Raphael (Eugene, OR), Dianne Bowen (New York, NY),
Barbara Monoian+Mor (New York, NY), Mistica Caravaggi (New York, NY), Juliette Pelletier (New York, NY),

Their works include sculptures in metal and wood, paintings on canvas and paper, and assemblages that
make use of found objects, neuropathy, organic matter, rawhide and light.  All find balance between
contemporary modes or representation and well crafted works of art.
